Taylor Swift’s Red: A state of grace

Taylor Swift’s Red: A state of grace

At age 22, Taylor Swift has debuted her fourth album: Red. The 16-track album sold 1.2 million copies in its first week on sale, the highest record since 2002.

Swift’s album, as always, focuses on what she does best: love songs. With almost all of the 16 songs somehow related either joyously or sadly to love, each one is endearing and strikingly different from the last, capturing the listener to keep listening.

As the album progresses, the strength of each song stays the same, each time creating a new picture, a new story, and ending on the perfect song about new beginnings.

Being a teenage girl, I can relate to what Swift sings about, and I’m drawn to the truth that she writes about. Having listened to all of her other albums, Swift has not faded with a new one. Just as strong, if not stronger than her previous albums, the highlights are the title song “Red,” “State of Grace” and “Begin Again.”

Swift also begins to stray away from her traditional country twang on the music and shifts more into pop. Whether or not you appreciate the change is up to the listener, but with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” topping the charts and the album selling 3 million copies so far, it’s fair to say most people like the shift.

To say the least, Red was anticipated, but well worth the wait. It has proved itself to be another hit album for Swift. Keep up the good work Taylor, and I’ll keep memorizing the lyrics.
