Western Wednesday was the theme on Oct. 9 for spirit week at Davis High. However, along with western dressed students, five baby chicks were introduced at the quad during lunch.

The quad was filled with line dancing and music that included songs by Luke Bryan and The Swon Brothers. Many students gathered around the chicks’ pen to watch them sleep.

Leadership student sophomore Essence Moore helped put on this event. This year leadership decided not to let students hold the chicks.

“Last year one of the chicks got a broken leg while someone was holding them,” Moore said.

Moore explained that the leadership class was inspired by the Western Wednesday spirit and decided to have the chicks out as part of the theme. These chicks are just five of the many that the Future Farmers of America (FFA) owns.

“It was so cool to hold them when they were first born! Now they’re about five weeks old,” ag student Anna Koltunov said.
