After coaching the DHS women’s basketball team for the last three years, head coach Karen Foster has announced that she will be stepping down for the 2014-2015 basketball season, according to the Davis Enterprise. Foster is a mother of two, which is one of the main reasons why she is retiring. Her daughter Brandi will be married in Tennessee next April and her other daughter, Megan, is graduating college and will be headed to graduate school.

In her three years of coaching Foster went 50-31. This past season, Foster coached a Blue Devil squad made almost exclusively of sophomores and juniors to a 17-10 record and a second place finish in the Delta Valley Conference.

“Well, there’s just a lot of uncertainty with the future, because we don’t know who the coach is,” junior guard Katie Grahn said.

According to Grahn, Foster told the team that she will still be involved with the program, but she will not be head coach. Foster taught the players a lot both on and off the floor, and has been with most of the players from a young age.

“She’s been my coach; she’s all I’ve ever known,” Grahn said. “She taught me how to carry myself both on and off the floor and has really been a mentor for me. I know a lot of people on the team have played for her before and she’s watched us all grow. She’s been really instrumental the last few years.”
