The Davis High women’s varsity volleyball team faced Elk Grove on Sept. 29 at home. The game ended quickly, with Davis winning in straight sets.

Elk Grove kept it close at the beginning of the first set, but once Davis got to 10 points, they broke away and won 25-16.

In the second set, Elk Grove kept Davis within reach for most of the period, but Davis broke away in the final points, winning 25-19.

Davis finished the game handily, winning the third set 25-16.

Senior Kate Nelson led the Devil offense, contributing 14 of their 36 kills. On the defensive side of the ball, junior Lena Sundin netted 15 digs, with Michelle Kang contributing 3 blocks.

With three players serving with 100 percent accuracy, Davis was able to keep their serving percentage to 95 percent, much to the delight of head coach Julie Crawford. “We always try to serve above 90 percent […] we served well tonight,” Crawford said.

The Blue Devil squad was very pleased with their performance. “I think it went well, we really played together as a team […] we came out strong tonight,” senior Veronica Roe said.

Looking forward, the team knows that they must win their upcoming games in order to advance to the playoffs. “We have some really big games coming up with Saint Francis and Pleasant Grove, so we just hope we can play as tough as we did tonight,” Roe said.
