In the final home game of the season on Feb. 2, the Davis High women’s varsity basketball team pulled off a victory against the visiting Sheldon High Huskies. Supporters of both teams filled the crowd for the Blue Devils’ senior night.

The Devils posted a quick lead, ending the first quarter up 11-4. The early scoring was led by junior Malia Abrenica, scoring eight points in the first quarter.

There was no chance for the Huskies, as the Devils kept the lead into halftime, 31-9.

At halftime, the Davis High dance team took the court for a performance.

Coming into the third quarter, the crowd radiated energy, propelling the Devils to end the third quarter with a 47-17 score.

The game ended with a score of 56-21, as the Devils jumped out of their seats to join the team on the court. Hugs and laughter filled the gym.

The two seniors being celebrated for the nights festivities were Pauline Anasco and Mara Bledsoe. Both seniors have been in the program since freshman year. They were presented with gifts before the game.

“I’m so grateful for all the memories I got to make these past four years. There were so many highs and lows but to go out with a win for my last home game will be unforgettable,” Anasco said.

Although a very emotional night for the two seniors, the underclassmen also had their fair share of emotions.

“It was a great way to honor our seniors with this great win and it was pretty emotional for us all. I think it was one of the most fun home games we have had because we all did so well and have grown so much during the season,” Abrenica said.

Although there are no more home games during the regular season for the Devils, they still have two more away league games. Then it is off to the playoffs.

“I’m hoping we make it in playoffs and come out really strong and continue to work together really well,” sophomore Tessa Schouten said.
