The Davis High varsity football team lost its home game against Franklin 42-14 on Aug. 16. Despite a very strong start, Davis was not able to hold on for too long against the Franklin offense.

Senior Jude Vaughn opened the game by returning the opening kickoff with a touchdown, and giving some energy to the team and the home fans. “We started off super hot with Jude scoring on that first play,” junior Sawyer Schoen said.

The Devils then immediately got the ball back with a quick interception, but after the strong start, things began to go downhill. Davis was not able to convert the turnover into any points, and Franklin responded with a touchdown.

Franklin scored two more touchdowns, ending the half, 21-7. The scoring continued for Franklin in the second half, as they put 21 more points, finishing the game 42-14.

The team recognizes that they have to put up more of a fight. “As soon as Franklin got 21 points on the board, we gave up. A 21-7 game is three plays away from being a tie… We as a team need to work on not giving up and keeping the same energy,” Schoen said.

“We started off with great energy, especially after the interception, but I feel like once Franklin scored their first touchdown I could feel the energy start to fall off,” senior Brandon Straub said.
