Davis High’s varsity field hockey team won on it’s senior night 9-0 against River Valley on Oct. 12.

Prior to the game, senior players were honored for their commitment and dedication to the team and congratulated by their friends, family members and teammates.

“I’m definitely going to miss the people the most. I’ve been playing athletics for so long and the girls on this team definitely stand out,” senior Mia Williams said.

The Devils started off strong and continued to dominate all four quarters, with senior Emma Brayton scoring three out of the team’s nine goals.

“Throughout all the years at DHS I’ve been a part of a great team. This year, we’ve really learned to pass really well together this season,” Brayton said.

Senior Ella Evans, a goalie, scored the first goal of her field hockey career.  “I’ve scored on myself, not on another goal.” Evans said. “Normally, in these games we don’t ever touch the ball. But because it’s senior night. We all kind of swapped places.”

The victory continued the team’s in-league winning streak. “We’ve been on a streak of 70-0 since 2017. But, we’ve had some games in the Bay Area that we have lost,” head coach Beth Hogan said.

“We’ve had one or two close calls this season that really made us realize how cool our streak is and that we want to keep it forever,” senior Mary Bingle said.

“Being a senior and especially having such a close relationship with the juniors and the sophomores on the team has been really nostalgic and we’ve just learned to work really well together. So it just makes playing on the field and practicing off the field really fun.”

Evelyn Soller

“My favorite thing about the year so far has been being a mentor. And just like stepping into the place to fill what past players left because they were amazing.”

Mary Bingle

“My favorite part has definitely been getting to know the newer juniors that came up and the sophomores because everyone is just so much fun. I’m going to be really sad.”
