Blue Devils Contest with Elk Grove’s Thundering Herd

The Davis High Varsity Football team brawled against Elk Grove’s Thundering Herd, wrestling for as many points as possible. Elk Grove came out on top with a final score of 7-34.
The face-off was especially attention-grabbing as it was “Game of the Week,” a selection made by the fans of television station ABC10. The camera team surrounded the field, enticing the players to perform at a higher level.
ABC10 came to the team’s practice before the game. “People around this area start to notice that we are contenders and not that we win every game but we are in every game,” senior quarterback Sawyer Schoen said.
Elk Grove came out strong with a touchdown off the opening kickoff followed by the try, giving them a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The opposing side furthered their lead by scoring another touchdown, resulting in a 13-0 half-time score.
During half-time, the dance team amazed the crowd and the cheerleaders did a routine with the Junior squad in hot pink.
“The vibes are up, and the stands are always hype,” junior dance captain Nisha Chandler said.
The second half was much like the first, with Elk Grove scoring two touchdowns and extra points. However, in the 3rd quarter, quarterback Sawyer Schoen took it to the endzone, with a successful extra point, ultimately rounding the score to 7-34.
