The stands were packed on Thursday the 12th of October, as the Davis High Girls Varsity Volleyball Team played Cosumnes Oaks. It was senior night, their last home game of the season.

Davis won all three sets leaving the South Gym on high note. All five seniors got to play together on their home court for the last time.

The team has had great seasons with these players over the years and have created a wonderful community.

“We have a very strong bond on and off the court, I feel like you can see that in our level of play now,” senior Marlena VanBoxtel said. Loving how her team has grown together, VanBoxtel held a key role being one of their captains.

Setter Maya Delaney “had a lot of fun making friends through each team and getting to know everyone” over time playing with the team. As a senior Delaney is proud of how their team has played and progressed.

Even though she was injured for half of the season, senior Ella Obegi did not let that get in the way of being there for her team. “It is a super great team, we always have lots of fun,” Obegi said.

Senior Tessa Schouten is also a team captain, and leads the team in kills with 176 this season. There has been “a lot of bonding over the years, we’ve really gotten to bond and click” Schouten said.

“I’m going to miss everyone,” senior Aley Serrano said. Being able to bond and communicate well “we definitely work better together now” Serrano said.

The team has worked hard with each other and is glad to celebrate the seniors that are a vital part of the team.

“It’s really sad we’re all separating” Schouten said, but their season is not quite over. Next Thursday Davis has their last league match against Pleasant Grove.

Davis is currently third in league and Pleasant Grove holds the second spot, both teams will have to work hard to win. With playoffs right around the corner Davis is ready to compete together.
