With the homecoming parade around the corner, students of different grades have been busy putting together their class floats.

Sophomores Che Yang, Hyacinth Malihot and Dominic Corbett were tasked to lead the building of their grade’s class float. This year’s sophomore homecoming theme, rock music, was the basis behind the design of the float: a rock ‘n’ roll stage.

“Our big inspirations for the float were Queen, Freddy Mercury, AC/DC and the Beatles,” one of the float constructors sophomore Jasarae DeRemer said.

As the float moves down the Davis streets during the parade, spectators will see the vibrant flame decorations as well as the blue drum set on the float. Silver streamers will encompass the body of the float. The dominant attribute of the sophomore float is a black sign with blue words “Class of 26 Rocks.”

Unlike the juniors and seniors, the sophomore class was not guaranteed a flatbed for their float which was a major difficulty for them.

Another difficulty that the sophomore class encountered was making props.

“(We had to make do) with the stuff we had because we didn’t have much,” Yang said.

The other struggle the sophomores encountered was advertising. Not a lot of people seemed to be aware of the float building activity, but DeRemer still felt there was good attendance.

DeRemer’s favorite part of the float will be the actual parade where they can “go out and enjoy their hard work.”
