On Friday night, the Davis High Blue Devils men’s varsity soccer team took on Whitney High at home. The Blue Devils triumphed with a 2 – 0 victory over Whitney, extending their record to 3-0 so far this season.

DHS scored both of their goals in the first half of regulation, with goals coming from seniors Ely Wilkinson and Dylan Ehlers.

Roughly halfway through the first half, DHS would make their way into the opposing team’s box, and Wilkinson found the back of the net quite early into the match. Wilkinson’s goal set the tone for the match, demonstrating the team’s ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

In the 36th minute, Ehlers scored an absolute screamer in the top bins out of the goalkeeper’s reach from almost 20 yards out, boosting the momentum of the game even further.

The DHS defense also played a crucial role in securing the victory, effectively stopping Whitney High’s attempts to break through their lines. Goalkeeper Dylan Hotaling made critical saves to keep a clean sheet for DHS, further solidifying the team’s dominance on the field.

“I’m really happy with how the team played today,” Ehlers said. “Our main goal this season is to repeat winning sections, and that’s why the teams are coming for our throats cause we’re the champs.”

Last year the DHS varsity team was undefeated and won Norcal State Championships. They are once again looking for the back-to-back repeat, and with a great start to the season so far, the door seems to be creeping back open again.
