DHS took first place in four of the seven biotechnology categories in the Teen Biotech Challenge, the most of any school. UC Davis held its awards reception Tuesday at the UC Davis campus to honor the Teen Biotech Challenge 2011 winners.

The UC Davis Biotech System created the Teen Biotech Challenge which is aimed at high school biotechnology students. Students create websites that focus on one of seven areas in biotechnology. These websites are judged by UCD and placed from first to honorary mention.

Not only did DHS have six groups that placed in the competition, the school also snatched grand prize for the second year in a row.

Biotechnology teacher Ann Moriarty was the sponsor teacher for the DHS students in this event. “I think the Teen Biotech Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for my students to do some in-depth research and learn how to create a web site. My students have excelled consistently in this competition, and I admire their initiative and hard work – it’s great to see it pay off,” Moriarty said.
