Women’s basketball comes back in second half with 50-42 win

Despite some struggles at the net in the first half, the women’s varsity basketball team pulled out a close victory over Laguna Creek on Feb. 3.

 

Becca Hassid, Tiffany Ho, Sara Sousa, Danielle Gantar and Ashleigh Vandenbrink started the game but Laguna Creek was first to the net, putting them at a 6-point lead to start. Four minutes into the game, Tiffany Ho made the first shot for DHS and got the ball rolling.

 

The first half ended 13-9, Laguna Creek.

 

A 2-pointer from Kylie Drexel started off the second quarter right. After many fouls, in the last minute of the half, Hassid swished in a free throw followed by another shot, closing the gap to only seven points.

 

Starting the second half better than the first, Gantar snagged a rebound and passesd to Tori Powell who tied up the game.  Both teams were fired up and the ball traveled from net to net with basket from Lindsay Kikumoto from Laguna Creek and Powell from DHS.

 

Powell, the game’s leading scorer, started out the last quarter with four more points for Davis. In last moments of the game, Powell turned the ball over to Vandenbrink who earned two points leaving DHS with eight point lead over Laguna Creek, 50-42.
