Competitors from DHS, Franklin HS, and Monterrey Trail HS participated in the track meet hosted by DHS on March 28.

One of the first events was the 1600-meter race, the equivalent of one mile. DHS received first for the men’s mile, and Franklin received first for the women’s mile.

Gavin Monges, a sophomore at DHS, participated in the men’s 1600-meter race and finished at five minutes, five seconds, a new personal record for Monges.

“I’m really glad that I p.r.’d [reached a new personal record], but I wish I could’ve broken five [minutes],” Monges said.

Freshman Charlie Harris also ran the 1600-meter race in the same heat as Monges. He finished in four minutes, 59 seconds. Harris felt good about his time and thought Davis was really doing well against Franklin and Monterrey Trail.

Isabel Leamon, a sophomore, ran the women’s 1600-meter. However, this was Leamon’s first track meet since suffering an injury, so she felt that she didn’t run as well as she would have liked.

“I think I did my best, but I was really nervous. I just couldn’t focus on what anyone else was doing … After the first 100 [meters] I think I was less nervous and concerned with how fast everyone else was running,” Leamon said.

Leamon timed in at six minutes, 33 seconds.
