Deep, melodic holiday tunes captured the attentions of the many golf fanatics decked in holiday sweaters and scarfs that attended the annual El Macero Country Club’s Christmas dinner on the evening of Dec. 22. The Davis High School Madrigal choir performed at this event and presented the audience with a number of captivating pieces and melodies.

The Madrigals performed holiday classics such as Joy to the World, First Noel, Silent Night, an impressive, a cappella Carol of the Bells and a fun, upbeat rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

“It was just really fun cause we got to do Christmas songs and I think it went really well,” junior Hannah Hertz said.

This is Hertz’s first year singing in the Madrigal choir.

The audience was invited to join in and sing along to these Christmas carols- although no one could quite keep up with the sounds and melodies of the Madrigal choir.

“I think Christmas carols are always really fun to do because they’re just so joyous and its fun to get into the spirit of things,” said Mandy Chen.

Chen directed the majority of the concert.

“Christmas songs are great I don’t know what else to say,” Chen said.

The Christmas Carols were all met with an enthusiastic round of applause as well as shouts and cheers from The El Macero Country Club’s members and residents.

The Madrigals perform their Holiday pieces at various locations and events throughout the holiday season. Sunday, however, was the last night they would be presenting these carols.

“It was actually a pretty special performance for us,” Chen said.

At the end of their final performance of choir favorite, Irish Blessings, the DHS Madrigals were met with a standing ovation from the festive and enamored crowd.

“I think it went fantastically, if that’s a word, I think we all had great fun and the choir did a great job, I think the audience really enjoyed it. Overall it was a great night,” Chen said.
