Davis High students and community members gather downtown for a climate change protest on Sept. 23.

Eliot Larson, the youth coordinator for Fridays For Future, has been protesting for climate change in Davis for 154 weeks every Friday. Fridays For Future is an international climate change organization founded by Greta Thunberg in 2018.

“Being a part of an international organization keeps me motivated to keep fighting for change,” 16 year old Eliot Larson said. Larson wants to raise awareness in the community and get as many kids to be involved as possible.

At the strike, a list of climate change demands was passed around to be signed and sent off to the Davis City Council. One of the demands being that youth voices are involved in decision making that affects their future. Larson has sent two letters, the second one as of Friday, including the demands to the City.

Community member Alan Hirsch, has been an activist for climate change since 1989. Like many others in the movement, Hirsch holds concern for the generational impacts climate change may bring. “(It’s important) because of my daughter; I’m afraid of the world she is inheriting,” Hirsch said.

Future for Fridays has built a community of climate activists locally, and internationally. Larson encourages people to keep walking out and showing up in support. “Clearly people still care all over the world,” Larson said.
