Aquatics Building

The new DHS Aquatic Center will be built east of the North Gym and south of the baseball fields. Math and science buildings in the N and T wing will be taken out in order to build the Aquatic Center, but those missing classrooms will be replaced by the classrooms in the new STEM building. The Aquatic Center will include a 25-yard x 50-meter pool, 17 lanes, two one-meter diving boards, space for two regulation floating goal water polo courses, changing rooms, restrooms, an equipment room, deck space, and spectator space. Construction for this facility will begin in the Summer of 2024 and is expected to be completed in the Winter of 2025.

Tennis Court Renovations

The enormous size of the new STEM building interferes with the current DHS tennis courts. For this reason, DJUSD plans to construct three new tennis courts so that there will be no loss of courts. These new tennis courts will be adjacent to the old ones, which are near the DHS baseball field and Brunell Theater. Construction on the tennis courts started in the Fall of 2022 and is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2023.

STEM Building

The new DHS STEM building is currently under construction, located between the Brunell Theater and the tennis courts. This facility will have two floors and includes 18 different science and elective classrooms. The STEM building began its construction in the Fall of 2022 and is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2024. The budget for this new building is $31.2 million.

Transportation and Auto Shop Building

The transportation building that is currently under construction at DHS is located between the All Student Center and the South Gym. Its construction began in the Spring of 2022 and is expected to be completed by May of 2023. The building will be used for auto shop classes, and construction includes an extension of the original building, as well as a new shade canopy. The facility is part of a CTE grant given to DHS by the State of California, and the budget for these CTE buildings will be $14.5 million.

Robotics and Engineering Building

The new DHS Robotics Building began construction in the Spring of 2022 and is expected to be completed in May of 2023. It is located on the corner of 14th and Oak Street, adjacent to the DHS library. The facility will include 7,800 square feet of instructional space and new outdoor learning spaces. This facility is also part of the CTE grant and will be included in the $14.5 million budget.

Agriculture Building

The new DHS Agriculture Building will also be included in the CTE grant and will be used for Future Farmers of America. The greenhouse and barn will be improved, along with providing FFA with better equipment. Construction on this building began in the Spring of 2022 and was completed in May of 2023.
