After eight years serving as Activities Director, Anthony Vasquez will be handing the position over to Kristin Swanstrom next year.

For the past eight years, Vasquez has been integral in helping the Student Government class organize countless school events, including school dances, spirit weeks, the powderpuff game, and much more. He accomplished all of this with much praise from his students.

“I’ve gotten to be able to make a really good, trusting relationship with him. He is one of the most understanding teachers and nicest people I know. He is super selfless and will do anything for his students,” Student Government member Mollie Dyer said.

Now, Swanstrom is preparing to step into the position. Swanstrom has been a social studies teacher at Davis High for 16 years. She has three kids, one in middle school and two in elementary school.

Swanstrom’s love of coaching her kid’s sports teams motivated her decision to join the Student Government team. Now that her children are older and on to “more professional coaches” she thinks that Student Government is a good fit for her.

“I have really missed having those relationships with students outside of the classroom,” Swanstrom said. “When the opportunity arose that DHS needed a new

Student Government adviser, I was really interested.”

Vasquez feels bittersweet about leaving the program but is confident that the program is in good hands.

“I am definitely going to miss Student Government,” Vasquez said. “(But) I couldn’t have chosen a better new activities director…She’s going to bring great energy and humor to it. I just hope she pauses and reflects to enjoy the payoff of planning the big events.”

Swanstrom feels up to the task. “I am really excited to take on this challenge and really get to know the students of Davis High more,” she said.
