With the team captains, Tessa Schouten and Marlena Vanboxtel, leading the way to victory, the Blue Devils girls’ varsity volleyball team sealed their first league win.

After the warmups ended, the Blue Devils got onto the court to face the Sheldon Huskies in the first set of the match.

The first set started off with some amazing plays by the Blue Devils and was finished by Davis with a score of 25-10.

With momentum and drive on Davis’ side, the girls carried on with their amazing plays into the second set to take another W of 25-17.

“Our team did a great job of mixing up our skills on the court,” Schouten said.

Through skill and teamwork, the volleyball team completely shut down Sheldon in the third set of the match, marking their victory in 3 straight sets, with a score of 25-5.

This was all due to the team’s chemistry between each position, the libero with the setter, the setter with the spiker, and the spiker with the blockers. Their offensive brilliance really shined light as they got multiple service aces and spikes.

“…My hits from the front row and back row (were consistent), I think I played aggressively and made smart attacks,” Vanboxtel said.

However, their win was not only based on their offensive talents. It was also about their ambitious mindset.

“We were able to shake off any mistakes we made and keep pushing until we earned that win,” Schouten said. “(But) I think I could have gotten involved in the offense a little more.”

With the volleyball team’s mindset on improving, they continue to become better athletes.

“I’m excited for the connections I’ve formed on the team and for the upcoming home games,” Vanboxtel said.
