Women’s varsity field hockey was ready to play against San Francisco University High School on Friday evening. It would be a match between the Blue and the Red Devils.

Davis was excited about some “fresh competition”, senior Nicola Davis said.

Quarter one kicked off at 5:38 pm, and from that moment on the adrenaline was high. Davis started strong on the offense, then switched to defense as University took possession.

Play continued back and forth between the Blue and Red Devils until finally, the quarter ended 0 – 0.

The 2nd quarter started with San Francisco in possession of the ball. They took this opportunity and immediately scored a goal, putting the score at 1-0.

Davis’ defense quickly rallied and prevented San Francisco from scoring any more goals. Midfield took the ball up the field, and Davis was on the offensive again.

There were multiple good assists and shots by senior Ellie Blosch, senior Isabella Gonfiotti, sophomore Bridget Berland, and sophomore Alana Clifford. However, the goal eluded the Blue Devils.

After a ten-minute break for halftime, both teams were back at it again. Davis’ offense continued to be strong, and they maintained possession for most of the quarter.

With four minutes to go, San Francisco took the ball and scored another goal. Davis responded by pushing San Francisco back to their side.

Quarter 3 ended 2 – 0, for San Francisco.

Quarter 4 showed fairly equal possession for both teams. A brief time-out was called to talk strategy, and then the Blue and Red Devils got back on the field.

In the last minute, San Francisco scored their last goal, ending the game at 3 – 0.

Davis did not let the score drop their morale.

“We definitely had more possession and played stronger than the score reflected”, captain Aurora Hogan said.

Ultimately, Davis proved they are a strong team that will continue to fight no matter the score.
