Women’s basketball upsets the visiting Franklin Wildcats

Coming off of a loss the day prior, the Davis High women’s basketball team was hungry for a win.

On Jan. 18, the DHS women’s basketball team won against the visiting Franklin Wildcats. The scoring was led by sophmore Tessa Schouten, putting up 14 points, and junior Malia Abrenica, adding eight. Other top scorers included seniors Mara Bledsoe and Pauline Anasco, totatled 14 combined points. 

Davis led at halftime, with a score of 19-15, and after a hard fought third quarter, the Blue Devils stretched their lead to 31-23. 

Keeping the lead, Davis High won the game 46-40.

“It feels great to get a well-deserved win and bounce back from yesterday,” Anasco said.  

Bledsoe applauded the defense throughout the game.

“Our win was really due to our great man-on-man defense, everyone really stepped up,” Bledsoe said. 

This win pushes the team to a 3-1 record in Delta League play and a 4-11 overall record. The DHS women’s basketball team plays Pleasant Grove at home at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21.
