The DHS Freedom from Hunger Club’s mission is to fight world hunger through creative fundraising events, with its most popular, “Dance to End Hunger,” taking place this past weekend on March 20.

“As soon as I heard about the dance, I had to get a ticket,” said sophomore Naomi Kibrya, “it’s a way to have fun for a cause.”

This year’s theme was “A Space Odyssey,” an idea that that would help the club reach for the stars by selling as many tickets as possible. Just as the club hoped, it sold as many as 300 tickets, according to its Facebook event.

Although there were problems with spreading the word, the event was ultimately a success, raising approximately $3000. All proceeds go to the Freedom from Hunger headquarters, located in Davis, to help using microcredit and education to solve chronic hunger and poverty.

“We partied like we cared,” said senior Juliana DePierto, president of the club.
