With this weekend being the last three-day weekend until Memorial Day, it is important to make the most of it. Here are some ideas for trips to pass your long weekend.

Junior Jason Kubik and his family frequently spend their time off from school at Santa Cruz. “I like going to Santa Cruz and going to the beach. I get to see my sister who goes to UC Santa Cruz and it’s pretty fun,” Kubik said.

Santa Cruz is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Davis, perfect for a weekend getaway. “We go to the beach and we usually eat at some vegan restaurants and sometimes go on some hikes in the hills,” Kubik said.

Another fun trip location is to the Lake Tahoe area. Besides skiing and snowboarding, Tahoe offers an assortment of activities including gondola rides to some of the most scenic views of Lake Tahoe, ice skating and snow mobile tours.

Junior Amber Kao enjoys spending time at Lake Tahoe with her family. Lake Tahoe is just a two-hour drive from Davis.

Finally, my personal preference for a three-day weekend is Sea Ranch. Located just north of Bodega Bay, Sea Ranch offers a less crowded beach atmosphere.

The three-hour drive can be imposing to many but Sea Ranch makes up for it with its exquisite natural beauty and variety of hikes for all levels. My personal favorite spots are Twofish Bakery, Walk On Beach Coastal access trail and Black Point Beach.

Twofish Bakery offers delicious cinnamon rolls as well as a great selection of sandwiches that are perfect to take on a picnic.

The Walk On Beach Coastal access trail gives visitors a scenic hike along a bluff overlooking the ocean; I would especially recommend this hike for those with dogs.

But the highlight of Sea Ranch has to be Black Point Beach. It’s a short ten-minute hike to the beach but it offers gorgeous scenery, especially at sunset.
