Friends and family of a select 24 Davis High students gathered in the gym on May 26 for a commemorative ceremony to cheer on college-bound athletes as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

Signing Day is a long-held a tradition, serving as a time for the school to celebrate the dedication from the graduating student-atheletes through their time with DHS athletics.

Athletic Director, Jeff Lorenson began the ceremony with a speech praising the hard work from both the athletes and those who have helped them along the way.

“This is a 24/7 commitment over a lot of years, to be able to sit in this chair. Hats off to parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, coaches and school staff that have really helped shape these athletes,” Lorenson said.

He then went down the line of athletes, giving the audience their name, sport, school and athletic acomplishments.

These included awards such as all-league, all-state, DHS MVP and sportsmanship honors.

A round of applause followed every student introduction.

“It’s really unique to have this many athletes from one school have this level of sucess,” Lorenson said. “It’s really important and we are really proud as a school and district of the programs that we offer for our athletes.”

These athletes will go on to attend schools all across the country, from UC Davis, to Chaminade University in Hawaii, to New York University.
