As students walk around Davis High campus they can see paint, papers, collages, colored tapes and drawings posted on the doors in waiting for the annual Door Decorating Contest. Students finish decorating the doors for the jury’s examination on Thursday.

The contest preparation started at the beginning of the year. The student government door decoration contest committee worked since the first day of school to get everything ready in time. Student government announcements the event and emails about the contest were sent to students and teachers in the second week of school.

The door decoration contest committee was given an allowance of 500 dollars to purchase supplies for the decorations. The committee only used up 200 dollars which member of the committee Sidney Johnson felt was “largely sufficient.” The rest of the money was left to the finance committee to help with dances and other school activities.

The supplies were sent out to the fourth period classes who had the option of decorating their doors. “Hearing how many people are interested and getting them interested (was really rewarding),” Johnson said.

Teachers and students worked together in order to create school appropriate designs. “It was inspiring to see how (the students) could do it all from original ideas,” art teacher Kyle Mohollen said.
