Aidan Leckie hears a knock at his door; it’s just 30 minutes before the bell will ring at Davis High. He warily opens his eyes and finds himself being rushed to get ready and out of the house by his sister, Athena Leckie.

Athena and Aidan are both juniors at DHS, and have been with each other, step-by-step throughout their educational careers.

The siblings are fraternal twins and were born in New Mexico. They have traveled around the globe following their dad as he would get stationed by the military in various countries. Eventually, the two ended up in Davis at the start of fourth grade when their father retired from the Air Force.

As the two matured and grew, they formed a consistent bond. “Aidan has become one of my best friends,” Athena said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the siblings would keep each other company during remote learning. Now that school is in person they are comfortable knowing that “there’s always someone at school that you know and can count on,” Aidan said.

Athena also appreciates knowing that she can always count on Aidan at school. “It’s nice that I get to see him in the halls … we both go through the same experiences, so we can really build off each other’s knowledge,” Athena said.

Although the two have been at the same schools, they have rarely been in the same classes. The one year they did, their sibling dynamic transformed. “Athena used to be really really competitive… it was always really tense,” Aidan said. However, as time progressed they can agree that they have, “both mellowed down” Aidan said.

Through their competitive dynamic and impotent arguments, the two have formed a unique friendship.

When peers find out about the share last name, “they are always shocked, we don’t look alike and our personalities are very different … people don’t understand how we come from the same family,” Athena said.

Both siblings expressed that when their educational paths separate, they will definitely miss each other and the company.
