On Monday, Davis High students wore their pajamas to school to start off spirit week for the upcoming Homecoming game this Friday, Oct. 20.

The Hoco theme is “HOCO Wrapped”, inspired by Spotify Wrapped, and calls for each class to dress up as a music genre. For spirit week, five songs represent each day. Monday was “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars, which represented Pajama Day.

Common outfits seen across campus were plaid pajama pants with a hoodie, and a few students wearing onesies. Others decided to tone it down by chilling in their sweats.

During Pajama Day, Student Government began selling pink shirts on the quad at lunch for the homecoming game’s “Pink Out” theme in support of breast cancer awareness month. Shirts are $5 with ASB and $10 without.

One member, senior Alex Oldham, was at the venue. Oldham was rocking a neon green onesie with a four-leaf clover on the front. Sophomore Michelle Nguyen said “It was the best pair of PJs” that she had seen. Nguyen was dressed in a brown oversized pajama hoodie.

Many students took this day as an opportunity for comfort. Junior Jimena Mandujano arrived at school wearing blue and green plaid pajama pants. “I love showing my school spirit and coming to school all comfy in my PJs and not having to worry about planning an outfit beforehand,” Mandujano said.

“I feel like I am about to fall asleep, especially in English when we were reading, it was like a bedtime story,” sophomore Kai Pedrosa said. Pedrosa came to school wearing red plaid pants and a grey hoodie.

Davis High students brought the tropics of Malibu to campus for the second day of spirit week.

Following the homecoming theme “Hoco Wrapped”, inspired by Spotify Wrapped, all spirit days throughout the week are based on popular songs. For Tuesday’s tropical day, DHS students and staff decked out in Hawaiian print and floral leis, inspired by Miley Cyrus’ song, “Malibu.”

Student government held several events in the quad during lunch. Songs from the “Barbie” soundtrack and Taylor Swift sounded throughout the quad as Student Government held a homecoming T-shirt stand in the quad, selling for $5 with an ASB card and $10 without.

Junior Noelani Castillo, a member of Student Government, helped run the T-shirt stand and explained how the spirit week themes were chosen. “We really wanted to make it easy for our student body so everyone could feel included and incorporated into the school spirit,” Castillo said.

Sophomore Raisa Kaplan shows her Blue Devil pride throughout Homecoming week. “This week’s spirit days are so great. It’s the perfect weather for tropical, am I right?” Kaplan said. On Tuesday, Kaplan sported a Hawaiian shirt with a purple and green lei, paired with a pair of sunglasses.

Kaplan selected band director Thomas Slabaugh’s outfit as her favorite. Slabaugh wore a button-up with both tropical and musical instrument designs. “Mr. Slabaugh’s outfit had a touch of music and a touch of tropical,” Kaplan said.
