The seven courts that were being played on simultaneously, were filled with focus as the Davis High School’s girls tennis team warmed up for their first league match.

On Tuesday, September fifth, the girls played Cosumnes Oaks after having only one scrimmage before, against Campolindo, which they had won.

Last year our team won the league and made it to the semi finals of sections. Varsity Coach Sally Hosley was excited to see “how the girls compete and get their nerves out,” on the first day of play.

Looking forward to her match, sophomore Molly Nansen has had an “exhilarating” pre-season preparing for her game. “I think we are going to have a super good season this year, we have an amazing team,” Nansen said.

There was lots of emotion back and forth on the courts as matches ended and others started. But senior Alena Voss did not let any feelings get to her head, “we’re good, we’re chilling,” Voss said calmly before her doubles match.

Wins were rolling in from Davis as the day went on. Senior Hannah Fox had won her singles match, “it was really fun, we had some really nice points,” Fox said, “I’m excited to contribute to the team.”

All said and done, Davis won eight points to one against Cosumnes Oaks, starting off league strong with a 1-0 record.

“It’s always fun to win, but also just fun to have some good points and have a good set,” Fox said.
